July 2026 Dog of the Month

_{Chapter # 728 is pleased to announce that the July Dog of the Month is Carlee!}

_{Carlee is a 9-year-old yellow lab owned by Davie Leight (Chapter #728 Treasurer). She is very dedicated to her master but still loves to be independent in the field. While Carlee works slowly, she is incredibly focused and doesn't mess around when she's on the job. She is a great supplement to a pointing dog, as her pace allows her to flush birds close.}

_{At home, Carlee enjoys her afternoon walks in the woods, sniffing around and seeing what has been out there. She is already looking forward to pheasant hunting again this season.}

June 2026 Dog of the Month

June Dog of the Month: Lucy.

Lucy is a three-year-old Hungarian Vizsla who belongs to Chapter Core Member Mike Ashley. She is a true "tale of two dogs". While she is a tornado with incredible endurance and tenacity in the field, she is a complete contrast at home, where she prefers to curl up like a ball and sleep on top of you.

As a Vizsla, Lucy requires at least one hour of vigorous exercise every day. As Mike can attest, the rewards are well worth the work. Lucy has already been out west hunting several times and has many more trips planned for the future.

Lucy is our featured dog this month.

May 2026 Dog of the Month

_{This month we are proud to recognize the late Max, an English Springer Spaniel, and his owner, Chapter Core Member Kevin Gathers.}

_{Max began flushing pheasants for our chapter's youth hunts back in 2013. At a solid 65 pounds, Max was a true brush-busting machine, though he never met a mud puddle he didn't want to jump into. Whether on land or in the water, he enjoyed hunting and retrieving birds, and he was an excellent house dog as well.}

_{Max made a significant impact to all he hunted with. One youth hunter he worked with in 2013 is now grown and has an English Springer Spaniel of his own.}

_{Max passed away on 9/15/25. Thank you, Max, for all the effort and hard work you gave to the chapter's youth hunts over the years. We miss you. May you rest in peace.}

April 2026 Dog of the Month

_{Meet Reverend—“Rev”—our Pheasants Forever Dog of the Month!}

_{Rev is a well-trained 2-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer who came to us from Hi-Point Kennels in Alliance, Ohio. True to his breed, he’s the perfect mix of energy, intelligence, and heart. Whether he’s charging through the field or greeting you at the door, Rev brings a boisterous spirit and affectionate personality to everything he does.}

_{Rev has already built an impressive hunting résumé, pursuing wild game birds across Pennsylvania, New York, and throughout New England. This fall, he’ll be adding North Dakota to his map as we gear up for another exciting adventure. He has also proudly participated in several organized youth and veterans hunts, showcasing not only his skill but his steady temperament and love for working alongside people.}

_{When the hunt is over, Rev knows how to unwind. You’ll usually find him stretched out on the couch or relaxing by the fireplace—proof that even the most driven dogs appreciate the quiet moments.}

_{We couldn’t be prouder of this incredible companion. Congrats, Rev!}

March 2026 Dog of the Month

^{Hunter, a 6 1/2 year old, 52lb male born to Garner's AKC Mountain Trek Brandy and Moss' AKC Maverick, eagerly demonstrates the strong field champion qualities of his lineage. He actively participates in the chapter's annual youth hunts, veteran hunts, and weekly pheasant hunts, all with his owner and handler Dave in tow. His capabilities including flushing birds from cover and retrieving harvested game to hand.}

^{During the offseason, Hunter stays active by swimming in the pond (especially when people are fishing), as well as chasing frogs, catching frisbees, and enjoying long naps on his favorite day bed.}

February 2026 Dog of the Month

^{This month we feature Luna. She is a 6 1/2 year old Springer who hunts 30+ days a year. Luna has endless energy and enthusiasm in the field and is obsessed with chasing a ball in the off season. Her owner and handler is Chapter Member Matt Putman.}

January 2026 Dog of the Month

This month we feature Dixie, a 5-year-old English Springer Spaniel, Chapter member Steve Dunsmore is her owner.

Dixie has enjoyed flushing birds for the chapter's annual youth hunts in the last four years, she has also volunteered her nose and flushing skills for the Hartstown, PA Veterans Pheasant Hunt and is always willing to hunt (especially for someone who is new to upland hunting).

Dixie also enjoys Hunting Grouse and Woodcock, in Pa and Mi.

Outside of the bird hunting seasons, Dixie enjoys retrieving bumpers, swimming in Lake Erie, running in the woods and couch naps

December 2025 Dog of the Month

Chapter Member Steve Capela is the owner of Mia, a 10 year old Lab/GSP and Bailey, a 3 year old Brittany, who recently volunteered for the chapter's first ever Veterans Day Hunt on 11/11/25.

Mia and Bailey also volunteer their noses and bird locating skills for the chapter's youth hunts. Steve also donates his time for other events throughout the year, with our Pheasants Forever chapter.

November 2025 Dog of the Month

This month we are featuring Dasher, 10 year old Brittany who enjoys chasing Roosters.

Dasher's owners are Dennis Ford and Karen Ford, who are proud members of NWPA Pheasants Forever Chapter #728
